Title: Twenty-Twenty
Author: caitri
Rating: G
Pairings: Kirk/McCoy
Word Count: 320
Summary: Bones gets new glasses and feels like a dork. Jim disagrees with his assessment. A Common Grounds ficlet written for
gadgetorious.
Disclaimer: I know this may come as a shock, but I am not, amazing as it may seem, Gene Roddenberry, J.J. Abrams, Paramount or Bad Robot. Just so you know.
Leonard is reading some reports at home when he hears Jim come in from work. "Honey, I'm home!" he calls out. They've been living together for a month now, but Jim still treats it like a novelty, which somehow translates inexplicably into the need to impersonate Ricky Ricardo on occasion.
"Hey, you," he calls out from where he's working in the spare bedroom, what has become their shared home office. Jim can work on his papers for grad school in here, and Leonard can catch up on his email.
"Whatcha doin'?" Jim peers in, then grins when he sees him. Leonard holds his breath; Jim hasn't seen them and they just came today, so....
"Welcome to the world of the four-eyed, Bones," Jim says with more smugness than Leonard feels is strictly warranted. He sighs to himself; he feels tired and old. Yeah, thirty-three is ancient, some part of his brain asserts. He takes the spectacles off, peering at them for a second. He had selected wire frames with perfectly round lenses in a masochistic need to mimic Benjamin Franklin, for some reason.
"They're reading glasses," he mutters, slipping them on once more. "I don't need them all the time. What?" Jim's familiar smile is exceptionally wide.
"You just look--really really cute, Bones," the younger man says. His blue eyes are very bright, lit up within in admiration and amusement.
Leonard can feel his cheeks warm. "You're a dork," he says gruffly.
"Uh huh." Jim isn't bothered at all. "A dork with a really hot, brilliant boyfriend who has sexy glasses."
Leonard rolls his eyes. "Whatever."
"Dude, I'm serious." He does seem to be, at that; his eyes are half-lidded with what Leonard has come to recognize as a prelude to out-and-out arousal. "You're always gorgeous, but now you've got the geek street cred." He flushes slightly. "It's kinda killing me."
"Well," Leonard says lazily, pulling Jim down to his level in the computer chair, "we can't have that, can we?"
"Nope," Jim says agreeably, "not at all."
Luckily, the glasses did not go flying during the proceedings.

Thank you, I love it. And I assume that Leonard is discovering, as I am, that glasses are smudgy bastards.
