Conversations with Straight Dudes, and a Costume of Sorts

I. This morning...

Me: So my hat for my costume came in the mail last night. I'm thinking about adding a bow to it to go for the whole funereal Victorian thing.
Todd: Cool. Are you gonna do anything with your hair?
Me: Not sure, I'm thinking about a ponytail--it would help with the hat. You?
Todd: I'm trying to decide whether or not to get some brillo cream to slick this shit back or not.
Me: Isn't that too Great Gatsby-esque with the suit?
Todd: Nah. I'm thinking of going for the whole Jeremy Brent thing.
Me: Fair enough. Y'know, I think this is the first time I've ever talked about hair with a straight dude.
Todd: Do you usually talk about hair with gay dudes?
Me: No, actually.
Todd: Then isn't that kind of misrepresentative?
Me: Fair point. Not changing the title of my lj post.

II. This afternoon...

(In which all characters are moving paintings and display cases)

Todd: Clear that table off so we can put this [GIANT painting] on it.
Cait clears off table, mostly.
Todd: You're worse than my four year old at directions!
Cait: I was worse than your seven year old yesterday, you said!
Michael R: I think that means you're regressing.
Todd: Pretty much.
Cait: So what does that mean, by Sunday I'll be like an ovary or something?
Todd: That's sexual harrassment, I'll have you know.
Cait: I hate you so much, man.
Michael R: Is this like war between you two now?
Julie: They're always like this, as near as I can tell.
Michael R: Really?
Todd: Cait's just mad we've been giving her shit and not Julie.
Cait: I'm mad at you, though, not Julie. Sistahs before Mistahs, right?
Julie: Right on.
Hal joins us abruptly, and just stares at us all.
