(Okay, Not So) Brief RL Post
May. 3rd, 2011 10:36 pm*Okay so I met with my advisor this morning. I am straight on the PhD track, 36 course credit hours and 28 research hours. I don't have to take the Bibliography course (thank GOD) because I'm a librarian and they figured I know that stuff, nor the Pedagogy course because I teach already and as a librarian they assume I won't have to know teaching quite as well as the other students (this was subtext, btw, which is fallacious but still amusing). Because I won't be on an assistantship I don't have to take the TA workshop in August that everyone else is required to go to, but I DO have to take the two day orientation on "how to be a grad student" which I think is lame. But I suppose I can take my notebook and look Srs while writing fic or some such.
Anyhow, I registered for classes and am signed up for the required First Year Seminar and for Creative Writing which I am very much looking forward to.
*I'm almost done assembling my tenure review packets to be sent out in two weeks. I'm polishing up my candidate statement and it's almost there. Over the summer I'll have to put together my Box but the main work of scanning and assembling articles and stuff is done, so it will mostly be color-coding folders and making labels and stuff.
*Book History Workshop. It's coming up. Tina is going to be on staff this year so we have some more estrogen in the house, YAY. We'll be sorting out new type next week and then we have new vats and a new mold and deckle and I want to do some papermaking runs with the new equipment before we get going proper.
*Rare Book School. Booked tickets and housing yesterday. It seriously only occured to me yesterday that if I'm flying with Todd I can totally lean over and be all "I might throw up on ya." (I find this hilarious in his Spockiness. Life imitates art, etc. etc. LOOK I'M REALLY EASY TO ENTERTAIN, OKAY?!) Anyhow I've been systematically working my way through the reading each night, and for better or worse it's not too bad because so much of the material is familiar to me already, but since my class is taught by the RBS director I feel this extra pressure to Know It. So.
*Fic-writing! Both of my out of control epics continue apace. *headdesk* I have a vague ambition of getting the Buffy/Trek mashup done for inclusion in vamp!weekend next week but we'll see. It's easier to bang out than my Kushiel!fic which hit 42k and stalled on me again while I was considering some plot points. So, we'll see. I was really hoping to have more progress on both before Book History starts and I'm still hoping but it's going to depend on my shepherds for tenure and all, so we'll see.
So, yeah. Fun times.
