It was my turn to get The Thing Going Around at work. In the scheme of things it wasn't that bad--sniffles, mild sore throat, fever, tiredness. I am mostly over it though the tiredness lingers. Hopefully this means I'll be fit for my upcoming travels.

I am so anxious for said travels. I dread my family. I wish I didn't, but I do. I've also been overthinking everything that could possibly go wrong with graduation. (What if my regalia didn't come in when I go to pick it up? What if I have problems returning it? What if what if what if??)

The contractors came back to work this week. Our kitchen is currently a husk with a fridge, a stove, and our dishwasher which, because it is not locked into anything, is terrifyingly easy to knock over when you try to put stuff in or out. We also discovered things like: our house has no insulation in it beyond brick, because WTF 1920s. And that the guest room is always cold because the vent system to it is partially obstructed by something or other, and honestly the easiest and cheapest solution is to just by a wall-mounted heating system to install in there (which is another $4k, but that is soooo much cheaper than the other options). Knock wood everything should be finished in three* (*because Thanksgiving so add a few days) weeks, which means that--knock wood again--I will indeed be able to actually cook us Christmas dinner.

I've been rolling around in recipes because holiday cooking is my favorite. For funsies I got a subscription to NYT Cooking, and they do have so many great recipes there that I look forward to playing with,

I am currently mired down halfway through The Raven Boys and am determined to finish it, but may not go beyond that. I'd heard the books were lovely and queer, but it's kind of a slog and none of the pov characters stick around long enough for me to get a feel for who they are. Which is extra frustrating because I am stressed and addled and I'd really, really love a nice fast escapist read right now, you know?
