So we may have gone a little overboard. So sue us. Samhain is only once a year!!

Carla and I went all Irish-American this year: Fresh corn, colconnan, boxties with apple sauce, and sausage.

Then we got super happy and made brambrack, a traditional fruitcake.

Plus mulled wine to go with. And then we watched Avengers cartoons.

~

I also made cupcakes for my coworkers and students. I'm doing an extra-credit screening of Supernatural eps tomorrow night (all the fan-related meta episodes, so, y'know, IT'S TOTALLY RELATED TO FAN STUDIES AND EDUCATIONAL AN' STUFF, 'KAY?) and I figured if they come for extra credit points they should at least get a sugar high while doing so.

I did unfortunately have to compromise my culinary ideals and use canned frosting because of a freak mishap when making my usual buttercream. I don't know what happened--it couldn't have been a humidity issue since, FOR ONCE, there's NOT any, but it's like the butter and meringue and sugar separated, and it's tasty but all cottage-cheese looking. So I have a bowl of that in my fridge, as I can't quite bring myself to throw it right out just yet, but I have no idea what to do with it instead. Ideas??? In the meantime, Betty Crocker Whipped Buttercream and Duncan Hines Chocolate Fudge Frosting. I think people will still be happy, yeah?

So: HAPPY SAMHAIN! May the new year be sweet and fruitful and filled with joy!
