Because It's True

So I saw this cartoon today, and it just made me angry, because it is so freaking true.

Right now, we have enough wealth in the world to give the homeless homes, the hungry food, the poor education, to heal the sick. And we don't, because we're dicks.

We're destroying our world because we're lazy and greedy. We could save it through public transportation, through economical use of resources, through goddamn responsibility.

Right now, we have the affordable technology to equip homes with solar panels for energy and to reclaim water. But we don't.

Just--what the actual FUCK, humanity.

Instead we tear ourselves apart like animals because of skin color, because of whose god is better, because of hate. Stupid, stupid, stupid reasons.

It makes me so angry and so sad because it is all so stupid. I guess humanity abhors a utopia, but why?

And I guess when all is said and done, maybe, maybe after having brought ourselves to the actual bring of extinction (because, seriously, that is what we are looking at here, in the next century), maybe we can wake the fuck up and grow up.

Maybe.

I hope so, I hope so so much because all I ever wanted growing up was that Star Trek-y future where everyone understood the importance of equality at all levels, and putting energies towards the greater good.

I really hope so, but there's a part of me that is starting to think entropy is part of the human condition, and what we take, we destroy.

But maybe, one day, we can learn better.

Maybe.

YES. I've thought this many, many times. It makes me so angry when I think of all we could have accomplished by now, in terms of scientific exploration and just meeting people's basic needs, if it weren't for our prejudice, our willful ignorance, our greed, and our superstition. It breaks my heart when I think of the way things could have been.
