Random Observation of Emerging Subgenre
Jun. 26th, 2006 12:52 pmWhat is with books about book clubs? (Examples off the top of my head, Dinner with Anna Karenina; that one about Jane Austen).
Look, the thing about book clubs is that they are about uninteresting people who gather to read largely uninteresting "literature" (you know, the kind of book that's about bored middle-class couples having affairs, or biographies of famous actors, preferably secretly gay ones who have been dead for ages) and say uninteresting things about it. "The point of this book is that extramarital sex is naughty and hurts people's feelings." Etc.
So why make bloody novels on this topic??
