Faculty Orientation Fun
Aug. 18th, 2008 08:29 pmDay 1 of Faculty Orientation. Scott maintained I'd be bored but I thought the sessions were interesting. There was a lengthy panel on "What to Expect Your First Year Teaching" that I thought was very interesting. Also: swag!!! Picked up a crapload of pens (always useful, particularly when you're me and running around all the dang time), a travel mug, a ruler, a zip drive, a purple GLBT frisbee, and something I can't identify from Research Services. Seriously: it's like a paperclip on steroids except vaguely bugshaped. No clue what it is.
Anyhow, tomorrow is going to be spent on promotion and tenure stuff, then I run to work for two hours so I can close shop, then I run to the evening shindig.
Later this week I also have a most-of-the-day workshop on teaching first year students, which I'm looking forward to. So far there are eight kids signed up for my course, plus a staff member who wants to sit in on the geekery. I'm getting increasingly excited about teaching next week.
