Part two is here.
Captain’s Log… We’ve arrived at Starbase Nine. Doctors McCoy and M’Benga are meeting with Doctor Sedgwick to discuss my…situation. Scotty and Chekov will also be showing them the adaptations they’ve made to the Faradi device. They assure me that this time tomorrow I will be back to my normal self. I’ll be relieved of course, but I must say I have found this whole experience to be quite…educational.
The entire operation the next morning is anticlimactic. Jim puts on one of her older uniforms, and goes to the Cargo Bay where Scotty, Chekov, and Dr. Sedgwick await. She gets into the machine, experiences a sensation not unlike that of being in the transporter, and when she gets out again, she’s a he.
He smiles at Bones, whose whole body relaxes. “Jim,” he says with this huge wide smile, and Jim has to repress the urge to kiss him right there in front of everyone. Bones runs his tricorder over him thoroughly. “Everything seems to be in order.”
“As we knew it would be,” Scotty says reprovingly.
“Indeed,” agrees Dr. Sedgwick, while Scotty continues to grumble about his tarnished reputation and beagles.
“Eet ees good to see you yourself again, Keptin,” says Chekov, smiling brightly.
“It’s good to feel myself again,” Jim says. His voice sounds funny to his own ears, and he sways slightly.
“I feel like I’m not walking right,” says Jim in surprise.
“I wouldn’t be surprised,” says Bones. “Your whole center of balance has shifted—again. Let’s get you to our quarters—you’ll need some time to adjust.”
Dr. Sedgwick coughs slightly, Scotty smiles, and Chekov blushes a bright red.
“Oh for God’s sake, get your mind out of the gutter, people!” Bones grumbles, but he’s nontheless guiding Jim out the door, to Jim’s own relief.

Jim shakes his head. “I felt like I was starting to get a hang on being a woman,” he says. “Now I have to relearn to be a guy, too? Talk about no-win scenarios!”
Leonard laughs as they enter their quarters. “I doubt that,” he says. “Don’t worry, I’ll make sure you remember your old self soon.”
“Oh?” says Jim. His eyes sparkle and he has his peculiarly Jim face on, that look of smug confidence and sensual abandon that makes Leonard tingle slightly just looking at him.
“Mmhmm.” Leonard kisses Jim softly, then harder. Everything about the kiss seems to stand out in relief to him: the shape of his lips, the slightly rough feel of his skin—his cheeks are smooth enough, but there’s the slight rough awareness of the stubble that will pepper his face in a few hours. Jim’s smell is different, he realizes; muskier, emphatically male. Leonard inhales it deeply. “Jesus, Jim,” he says reverently.
“Miss me, Bones?” Jim murmurs.
“I hadn’t realized it ‘til now, but yeah—yeah, I think I did.” Leonard looks at him, at that well-loved face, as familiar as his own, now. “Don’t get me wrong, I love you no matter what, but—I really love you when you’re you.”
Jim laughs at that. “Oh, Bones,” he says, and kisses him again. The kiss changes, becoming harder. “I need you, Bones,” he says huskily. “I need you right now.”
“I know,” says Leonard. “I need you too.” Jim is pulling at his clothes, kissing him intermittently as their things are discarded until it’s just the two of them, skin to skin. He pulls Leonard to the bed, sighing softly. “Bones, Bones, Bones.”
“Jim,” answers Leonard. He looks at his lover, admiring him: the flat planes of his chest, the light hairs that dust his stomach, the cock growing erect with interest and arousal. He takes the head of it into his mouth, flicking his tongue over the slit, savoring the salty taste of Jim’s pre-cum.
“Fuck, Bones,” Jim hisses.
Leonard stops. “Workin’ on it, Jim,” he says as his lover laughs softly. “Patience now, darlin’.” He traces lazy figure eights along Jim’s testicles with his index finger, then takes them into his hand gently as he continues to gently suckle his cock.
“I need you, Bones,” says Jim hoarsely. “Bones! Please?”
“Hush,” he answers. “Just let me take care of you. Doctor’s orders, now.”
He continues to suck on Jim’s shaft, moving with a familiar rhythm. He can feel Jim straining in his mouth, is vaguely aware of the hands running through his hair as he works. Jim cries out roughly when he comes, filling his mouth with salt. “Bones!”
Jim crumples bonelessly onto the bed, breathing hard. Leonard looks up from his work and is surprised to see Jim’s face damp, tear trails streaking from the corners of his eyes down to his ears. “Jim?” he says, concerned.
“I’m just happy to be me again,” Jim says softly. “I love you, Bones. And I still need you. In me. Please?”
Leonard just nods, and reaches into the drawer of their nightstand to get the lube. He prepares himself and Jim expertly, and guides Jim’s legs over his shoulders. He bends down to kiss his lover again, and then he’s at Jim’s entrance, and then inside of him. Jim gasps a little when he’s all the way in.
“Are you okay, love?” Leonard asks.
“More than okay,” Jim answers. “Now fuck me. Please.”
Leonard begins moving, first gently, then faster. The sensation of Jim as a man is of course different than as a woman—different bodies, sexes, orifices. The feel of the heat is even different, though of course he knows that both bodies were around 98.6, Human normal. But most of all, right now? He’s fucking Jim, his Jim, his wonderful, brilliant, idiotic, precious Jim—
Leonard comes, and when he slumps down into Jim’s arms, Jim holds him there tightly, kissing his hair, his face. “Bones, Bones, Bones,” he murmurs.
“I love you, Jim” he says, and remains inside his lover a moment more.
“I know,” says Jim, who marvels at the man beside him, at their love that can withstand time, space, everything in between, and all the other adventures to come.

Totally Not the End.
Gratuitous Author’s Notes
The title is inspired by Virginia Woolf’s Orlando, a novel about a man becoming a woman. Orlando doesn’t have quite the support system in place that Jim does, though.
Rok-tor is a Vulcan settlement in this ‘verse.
Lieutenant Kyle was the transporter chief on several episodes of The Original Series.
The reboot movie site’s dossier on Scott says he was Archer’s aide for Advanced Relativistic Mechanics.
The V’tosh ka’tur are mentioned in the Enterprise episode “Fusion.”
Sybok appears in Star Trek V: The Final Frontier.
The conversation about Jim turning into a woman in the original timeline references his body exchange with Janice Lester in “Turnabout Intruder.” I’m also choosing to sort of explain away the technological discrepances/differences of TOS and AOS. And let’s face it, better replicators? Make writing some things easier.
Dr. Sedgwick is a reference to Eve Kosofky Sedgwick, the noted theoriest of gender and queer theory. She is perhaps most famous for her book Epistemology of the Closet. …This is my idea of an in-joke.
