Because These Are Real Things in The Real World

There was a shooter at the UT library today. The gunman killed himself; no other wounded or fatalities.

The library is about 135 miles from me.

This might seem distant. But. The library world is small and we interact with them a lot.

My coworker Anton was supposed to go there today. He didn't because the Dean called everyone who was traveling to Austin and told them to stay put.

Lyndsey was there yesterday, because she's scoping out their Library Science program.

Steve's daughter works there.

Melissa's cousin works there.

Mary and Stephanie are going there for a workshop next week.

Todd and I went there for a business trip back in December.

So.

The world is small, and sometimes scary.

Danger and silence is more than space and darkness.

I have at least three friends there who work on campus, plus a friend who was walking to work near there when it happened. Very scary, and I think we got very lucky.

I know. And the weird thing is at work I was too busy to think about it much, and then I got home, and I was like Whoa. Dude. And then it's so sad that we read and we think "that's lucky," like someone killing themselves is a good thing. Sad and troubling all the way round.

I didn't here about this and with the OU Texas game this weekend. I would of thought that the news up here would of said something. I'm so glade everyone's okay.

Glad you're okay and no one you knew was personally affected. These things are horrible and tragic and sometimes hit so close to home randomly. It can be quite scary.
