In that we had an armed gunman on campus this afternoon and told to lockdown. This happened around 3pm. This led to everyone constantly checking newswebsites for more info, getting rumors over Facebook (at one point there were reports of a sniper at Kyle field), etc. Around 5:30 UPD announced an all-clear; they had located and detained a student who had a replica gun and may have been carrying it around for Halloween (lots of kids were in costume today). So lots of tension because of a dimbulb, considering the kid who killed himself at UT last month. Jesus Christ on toast, is all I got.

Spent most of the day disassembling the Sea of Mud exhibit in preparation for installing the Holman exhibit, which opens next Friday. Tomorrow I've got to run the Cushing-Glasscock Award shindig. And I'll be working most of the weekend it sounds like. Whee.

Yeah, the initial report was from a busdriver who described it as an AK-47, and we were all like oh SHIT.

And yeah, the Sea of Mud (http://cushing.library.tamu.edu/exhibits/current-exhibits/sea-of-mud) exhibit was awesome but a pain to put together. You should totally visit your Uni's special collections though, even if they don't do big exhibits: librarians are usually happy to show off our stuff!!!! :D

Talk about scary! I'm glad it was just a false alarm.

But, God, people do stupid shit around Halloween. I remember a few years ago, right before Halloween, someone hung a noose in the quad where I went to school, probably just because they were trying to 'get into the spirit,' but managed to incite a race war on campus because of the association of a noose with lynching (which will never be far enough in the past to ever be 'in the past'). Things got pretty insane before they got better.

No kidding!!! We have a sizeable military population on campus, but the cadets are always quite careful about when they have their rifles and things--props where props do and all. This kid just wasn't thinking at all!

I'm glad it was just a toy gun! But dear gods, that was not the best thing ever.
