Investigating a tidbit from morfin I went down into the stacks and discovered this book of fan-written Trek stories published in 1978.

One story, "The Procrustean Petard" is a genderswap with heavy K/Mc subtext. It made me shriek in the stacks.

Head's up. Looks like there's used copies out there, too.

Those were great! I had them as a kid. Being a kid, I missed the subtext... now I need to figure out whether my mom kept them.

Yeah the more I read the less subtext there was. It was awesome. Literally McCoy's first words to Jim when they wake up as women are "Dammit, Jim! You're beau--" and then he shuts up. Later s/he also explains that while he/she can remain a doctor as a woman, Jim can't be a Captain cos she's too damn hot, or some such. OMG.

And then KANG shows up and tries to blackmail girl!Kirk into sleeping with him (WOW) and later they have a truce and then he butts in when another guy is trying to hit on Kirk at a bar and just omg. The wow.
