Title: Sing the Wrath
Author: caitri
Rating: PG
Pairing: Kirk/McCoy??
Word Count: 228
Summary: Something Greek for [livejournal.com profile] rubynye. Companion piece to Stars In Your Eyes, Laurels In Your Hair
Disclaimer: I don’t own Star Trek. Or Greek mythology. Or anything, really.
A/N: I don’t know, I really don’t. I just started to hear this, and yeah.

We followed him at first because we had no other choice. After that, we followed him because we trusted him, because of all those lost during that great battle, he was the one who led us to victory in the end.

Later, because we loved him.

And he loved his best friend.

It wasn’t even a secret. Our elders looked on in amusement, that two who were so different could love as they did. The one who looked like Apollo but fought like Ares himself, the other who drank like Dionysus and was as grim as Hades.

We watched in surprise as the fair-haired youth could win smiles from his dark counterpart, even reluctant ones. How that dark face would lighten and the furrowed brow would smooth in response to some jest or some low word.

And when he died—

Our leader was like a son of Dis then. His light eyes burned, and he ordered our enemies destroyed, completely.

We took their ship and watched it burn.

We felt no regret.

But after that the burning fury was not appeased.

The Second, Athena’s scion as ever, spoke wise counsel.

He did not listen.

Instead, he left. We know not where. We suspect—We know he means to go to Tartarus, one way or another.

We know they’ll be reunited there.

We’ll write songs when they do.

Oh, this is epic. I can totally see the tragedy on the early stage, hear the songs being sung in the evenings.

Definitively made of awesome, those two fics. Tragic and well-written; looking forward to see more of your work. (More of this 'verse, perhaps ?)

Not sure about this 'verse, particularly since I've got like... four other ongoing Kirk/McCoy series? Not counting the other odd things I get in mind? Glad you enjoyed it, though!! *G*

That is so Jim... he would avenge Bones and then fight Hades himself for him.

Epic and wonderful!

Oh, and to let you know, I've snagged both for the Inspiration Prompt at [livejournal.com profile] jim_and_bones since they were prompted/inspired over there.

Waaaay better than cheesy Xena and Herc (tho I love them, don't get me wrong) ;) These two pieces...just, yeah, good stuff. I've always loved the Greek and Roman era stuff, I just wasn't always a fan of the crazy complicated english translations we had to read in high school, so this is PERFECT!

It's an unresolved question in my mind, whether Jim Nobly Carries On or goes Savage and follows Bones into the Dark. Thank you for this. It's utterly stunning.

In my head at least, Jim goes to Tartarus, tricks the Ferryman, somehow frees Bones, and then the two of them hide out somewhere because making the Gods angry? Is not a good thing. And if they ever see the crew again it will be as old people.

Also, I find something so Irresistable about Jim as this trickster figure. IDEK.

I have this long, tortured AU/Greek thing with Jim making horrible plays on the word hermunuetics and being Hermes, updated.

It's pretty bad. And sometimes I watch Supernatural and think of Bones and Jim as Cas and Gabriel, with Jim as Gabriel/Loki, natch. (I don't know if you've watched any/enough to get that reference, but... I think he'd do well.)

I now have this very entertaining image of Jim in sandals with little wings on them, and Bones looking very grumbly and disapproving. I need to figure out how to do another Cupid!Bones story sometime.

And I get part of the SPN reference...I'm still in Season 1 and honestly the show doesn't do that much for me. According to gadg it gets better in 3 when Cas shows up? So I guess I'll plod along until then.

It's amazing how short these two pieces were but how packed they are. You've combined two of my favorite things, Greek mythology and Trek, and twisted them into one. Bravo.
