Last night they took down the shiny scifi banners on the building.

This morning, they put up these:

ETA: I was on my way to lunch when I ran into a coworker, who stopped me and said, "So, I heard you're doing the death-defying plunge and going up for tenure early." I said "Yeah, I have my Captain Kirk-like reputation to live up to. I'm trying to decide whether or not to take an apple with me when I do the actual presentation."(No, I didn't have my Kirk badge on at the time. Dammit!) They were like, ??? I said, "Y'know, how Kirk's munching an apple during the Kobayashi Maru, cos it's the...unbeatable...test?" They were like "Um, no." Then my friend Tina walked up and I was like, "Hey, I was just explaining about going up for tenure and whether or not to munch on an apple at my talk." And Tina is like, "Oh yeah, like Kirk at the Kobayashi Maru!"

SOME PEOPLE UNDERSTAND ME!!! <33333

It will never not be entertaining to me that those who do are largely split between the Internet...and Texas. :D

Sorry to see the banners go down :( What are ya'll doing with them?

And good luck on the tenure plunge. Have you figured out how you're reprogramming the committee? I suggest electrodes and administering negative reinforcement.

I haven't heard yet--the other ones they did they had sewn up into tote bags for VIPs and the like; if they do that with these I will def see what I can do but acquiring some for our SF folks of interest. *G*

As for reprogramming--pfft!!! What, you thought I got that "I'll do it in 3" icon just for LOOKS? ;)

I seriously think you should look into 1. keeping one for special collections, and 2. seeing about entering some of them into a SF auction at a convention to see about raising money for the collection.

Otherwise, sign me up for a tote :)

I can't believe you worked in ST and Jim Kirk in every day conversation and it wasn't about fanfiction. XD XD XD Only you, bb. *squishes*

Now I'm just waiting for you to mention MLPs...

I've been lurking on your fic for a bit, but I just wanted to say that when I was there doing my bachelor's, that building was totally my favorite study hidey-hole on campus, since it was right next to biological sciences where most of my classes were. It was also so awesome, despite the extreme measures to get in there. None of my friends *ever* found me to bug me in Cushing, though. :)

LOL! I would hardly consider it an "extreme measure" to get into Cushing. It's fun you were reading and discovered the small worldness though. :D

Well, in order to study there, I think I had to sign in, make sure to have no food or drink, leave all pens outside, put my backpack in a locker, not use spiral notebooks on the desks... but I could be delusional. That's kind of extreme compared to the other places on campus. But worth it.

Then again, at one point, a boss with the Corps had me looking at some items from the Archives, specifically about University history, so... I can see why. :)

Yeah, for special collections that's as easy it gets. Back when I worked in DC you had to go through x-ray machines, guards had to look through your stuff--etc etc. At Cushing we like to say "We're not in the purse-checking business." But, y'know, with some collections and things, it probably is only a matter of time before we have the guards and stuff...who knows!
