Okay, first off let me say that the previews may as well have been my summer schedule. CONAN? Yes. X-MEN: FIRST CLASS? Oh God Yes. GREEN LANTERN? Yup. DON'T BE AFRAID OF THE DARK? Wait, a horror movie written by GUILLERMO DEL TORO?! How did I not know about this?? Yes! COWBOYS VS ALIENS? Totally! CAPTAIN AMERICA? Oh H to the Y!

Now. Thor.

It made me squee so much. Also, it was written by J. Michael Stracinzinksy, and how did I not know this either? So, so much fun. Clever and self-aware but not mocking, standing on its own but still full of hat-tips to the greater Marvel universe. *happy sigh*

My only point of contention was the romance plot. Okay, our lady astrophysicist has every reason to fall head over heels for Thor: he's gorgeous, courtly, innocent in a puppy-dog sort of way, and totally badass. And the hammer is not his--Er. Never mind. But we're supposed to buy that Thor is smitten by her too, and though Chris Hemsworth sells the smitten, we're not really shown why. Soooo she picks up gorgeous hunks off the road and studies astrophysics. Yay? There could have been a hella lot more development there, and they only really needed a small scene or two to act as shorthand. So, grr, there.

I also loved Branagh's direction. There's lots of angled shots throughout to kind of give you the feel that as the heavens are out of balance, so too is Earth right now. And considering the number of lesser-knowns he was working with, he seemed to have given them all a good handle on their characters so that they were able to stand on their own with the heavyweights.

Let me just close with this (hat-tip to [livejournal.com profile] tocourtdisaster):

Okay, after having the film I don't even have WORDS for how much I want this. Considering Thor's characterization throughout as an arrogant smartass who is nonetheless a great warrior and someone you'd totes want to have a beer with after, and then grows UP on top of that? I could TOTES see NuKirk as being a chip off the old block.

(This is my way of saying that as soon as I figure out how? I'm writing it. And lightning storms in space? TOTALLY MAKING EVEN MORE SENSE.)

I am so glad it was good! I'm not hearing nothing but positive from people I know.

I would love to read a "Thor and Kirk have a beer together" fic. I have this crackfic/comic plot bunny where Bruce Wayne, Adrian Veidt and Tony Stark all have dinner together, and it's totally disrupted by Talia Ducard...who has dated them all. I know I'm throwing a Marvel character into the DC universe there, but I don't care

You, bb, are the Queen of crossovers and I am in awe!

Love the banner, too. Gorgeous.

*sigh*

I have to wait to see it, but I WILL be watching.

I SO wish I could go see a summer movie with you; I bet you would be the best movie companion ever.

And I really must figure out how/when I can go see Thor.

I hope you're good with hyper chipmunks then, because I sat there going "EEEEE!" and clapping manically whenever I was geekily pleased. (Which, in this case, was a LOT!)

You know I thought the same things as you about the flick, and those scenes could have just hit the cutting room floor, or been taking out of the script for time reasons, and they aren't important to the over all plot.

I was also trying to plot out cross over fic in my head during the second time I saw it <3

Oh hell no it wasn't just you, Sel and I where talking about the other night. Hee. I have so much stuff in my WIP folder, had bb been timed differently I might have signed up to challenge myself over the summer, but I have one last paper due on wednesday. At lest it's on Fahrenheit 451, so it's not too bad, but it's for the prof who wrote your a horrible writer across the top of my paper and gave me a D+ and then no concrit. I was a little oO and pissed.

dude is an ego maniac, my friend and I had similar papers and he sited one of the guys eight books he's written and got a B. My other friend who didn't site him got a D as well and no concrit comments.

I had my dad read my paper, and he was like what the fuck, as well. My friend who is getting his masters, who I used to work on a newspaper with, where you know I won awards for my writing, was also what the fuck. It's because I didn't cite him or agree with his politics.

I am just glade I don't have to take another class with the dude, if I did I wouldn't be a happy camper. But I am happy that the Prof who loves my writing is teaching the Sci Fi and Cinema Class next semester.

But yeah Kirks face in your icon was pretty much mine.

:D hahaha yeah most of the programs I am looking at are three years a well. Just channel your inner Kirk and you'll be fine. Si Sa puita! I probably killed the Spanish there, but it basically is the motto for my friends and I. YOU CAN DO IT! <3

I am glade I got all my theory done, because now I can focus on getting a portfolio ready for the apps, I have a year to get a screen play or a couple of shorts done... *groan* Yay more student debt hahah.

It also helps that the actor who plays Thor(Chris Hemsworth) also played Jim Kirk dad's in the beginning of Star Trek 2009.

So much crossover material! :D

Please say you will write this? Pretty please?! ^^
