So The Thing About Holidays
Jun. 30th, 2011 01:14 pmIs they sometimes require time with the genetic units. Okay, here's the thing: AGES ago I asked the parental unit what the plans were for July 4. She told me Buffy was going to be having some kind of brunch with her new husband and she would be going to that. And I was like, okay, cool, and so then Orion and Sarah made plans to fly down and we'll all be hanging out this weekend. Awesome.
Then last night Mom calls at a quarter 'til midnight--and of course I answer 'cause, y'know, I'm partially assuming it Must Be Important if she's calling that late, and the gist of it is that Buffy "got the dates wrong" (HOW DO YOU GET THE DATES WRONG FOR THE FOURTH OF JULY? HOW?!) and so her fancy brunch is Sunday, and would Scott and I like for her to come visit?
Um. Okay. We do so like being an afterthought. Anyway, after some thought and discussion we're going to suggest maybe she visit later in the week and we can take her to see Midnight in Paris and then out to dinner to the Cheesecake Factory or some such. In likewise typical fashion I've heard nothing from any of my siblings so I'm assuming they all have plans too, which I suppose is just as well since the apartment is not conducive to large family gatherings.
So I'll gather the testicular fortitude later to call Mom and work this out. I just wish I didn't have to feel so second-choicey, or...whatever it is I'm feeling. It's not good. It's not all that bad, either, more resigned, I suppose, but it's another source of fretfulness I'd like to not be dealing with. I have two books I'm reading for review in my bag and several deadlines and I'm sitting in this lovely cafe and wishing I could feel all chill instead of fretfully ADD.
