First Day of School!
Jan. 17th, 2012 07:55 pmThe funny thing about the first day of classes is how during the interim I get used to crossing the street to campus by myself, then I cross on the first day of class and suddenly there's like forty people with me.
So today was my first class, which was a readings seminar on Early Modern Drama, and it was fun! My favorite part is how neatly I slotted in to sit with three of my friends, so there was that automatically warm and toasty feeling. We'll be doing a lot of neat things in that class, including getting started on some basic Elizabethen paleography, which is a skill I've been wanting to pick up for a while now!
In other news, I turned in my development request to go to Rare Book School again this summer to take a course on American and European papermaking, which will come in handy for future Book History Workshops. Similarly, I talked to Todd, and he's going to let me use some of the woodblocks and tools to work on some woodcuts and engravings prior to BHW so I can get a better feel for that. I've only done it once before and I was underwhelmed with what I made.
So that's what's the what right now. My other two classes will both be on Monday, so I have to wait to see what they will be like.
Oh, I've also been reading a bunch of Captain America comics! I really like the whole Winter Soldier storyline, and have a part of an idea for a fic there. (In all my abundant free time, you know, between the hours of 3-5 in the morning, as Hal used to say.) But I've got a few other things to finish first, most pressingly James Eyre, which I should at least be able to finish for my writing class!!
