Basically this strikes me as a cheap shot at participatory culture, especially since the writers/producers got into a high profile-ish squabble with Trek fans over the summer. You know those scary internets where the social maladjusts live! Well at least the baddy was a white dude and not a chick, like it would be in Supernatural.
