Jan. 15th, 2014 12:21 pmYou know, when you consider the treatment of women's writing both historically and in the current moment, it is at once shocking and makes total sense (for a specific degree of sense, ie. as to how women/women's writing is viewed and treated) to find that the term hack (cheap/bad writer for profit) was originally a term for a prostitute and that the term streetwalker (currently a term for a prostitute) referred to women who sold (and in some cases also wrote and printed) newsbooks/pamphlets/newspapers.
