The Light that I can Still See
Dec. 20th, 2016 12:17 pmSo in my heart of hearts I didn't expect the Electoral College to do anything yesterday, and yet I was nonetheless disappointed that my cynicism was vindicated. And yet, as I was out doing errands and such, I was struck by by the little signs I would see here and there in shops, ones with (and sometimes without) safety pins declaring those premises to be safe places where everyone was welcome; there is a BIG sign on my neighborhood library that appeared promptly after election day that iterates that EVERYONE is welcome there. I'll be honest and admit that what is happening in my country--and the world--scares the shit out of me, but I do remind myself that the bulk of the population was and *is* on the right side of history.
