Not a Movie Review: Annihilation

 I was underwhelmed because I had just finished reading the book. It's very pretty? And I like what they did with diversity in casting and stuff, but....they Hollywoodized the fuck out of it.

I also spent too much time making it a really weird Padme/Poe time travel AU in my mind. >_>

Oh, interesting! I really liked the movie but had not read the book/s beforehand. I understand they're worth enjoying, though.

I struggled with the book, tbh, and I'm not sure I'll ever pick up the others. The tight first person pov worked for the story, but the key to the story is how information is not shared with the reader: None of the characters have names, only the main character has a background, etc. Stuff happens, none of it involving gunfights, scary animals, bombs, or fist-fights. "Annihilation" in the book also refers to the destruction of the reports of those who had gone before, not what the aliens want.

Padme/Poe sounds awesome -- everyone is screaming or I'd say more.
