I glommed onto TOS Kirk as a kid. I absolutely wanted to BE Kirk, with a BFF and found family and "command" and girls of the week. AOS edition I glommed onto even HARDER, if possible, because his brand of devil-may-care overachiever overcoming a horrendous and traumatizing family history Spoke to me.
2. All the people I ship romantically and/or sexually with this character
TOS Spock OTP, AOS McCoy OTP, with everlasting bromance/friends-with-benefits with Gaila.
3. Favorite gen relationship(s) for this character
The eternal bromance with Spock, the camaraderie with Sulu, the annoying-brother relationship with Uhura, the mentoring relationship with Chekov.
4. My unpopular opinion about this character
That TOS Kirk wasn't a womanizer. Within the context of each TOS episodes, his relationships with women are informed, variously, by long-term relationship that has ended (Carol Marcus, Areel Shaw, etc.), tragic but genuinely felt romance (e.g. Edith Keeler, Miramanee), or situational coercion (eg. Elaan).
Problematized by the fact that AOS Kirk was.
5. One thing I wish would happen / had happened with this character in canon.
I wish we had seen more queerness in his AOS interpretation. I mean, it's pretty clear he's omnisexual by species, but we should see this with aliens that aren't women too.
6. Random pet theory about this character that you won't convince me is not true.
AOS Kirk absolutely was on Taurus IV and that further enabled a lot of his self-loathing/survivor's guilt/self-destructiveness.
7. A song or piece of music I associate with this character.
Johnny Cash, particularly "Burning Ring of Fire."
