People keep talking like the pandemic is magically gonna be over in a year, and we can have our conferences and our vacations and so on then.

And then I point out that this is exceedingly unlikely, because vaccines take time, and they get irritated with me. "Why Are You So Cynical, Cait?" they ask me, and I shrug, and say, "Am I cynical or am I realistic?" And then they hastily change subject.

This grump brought to you by an irritated family zoom call, and people who assure me that I'm the one who doesn't understand Science. (Which, to be fair, probably not, but I understand the words in major newspapers, and those aren't that optimistic, so I dunno what to tell ya.)

Sometimes I want to take your framed diploma and smack your family members with it.

You're braver than I am. I haven't discussed this with my extended family, but most of them live in states that didn't shut down. I also have observed pictures on FB of my brother's big family all gathered together from various areas of my home state, taking pictures in one big group with no masks. I shudder just thinking about it.

A person doesn't have to "understand science." One just needs to listen to scientific experts to know that life being back to "normal" in a year is unrealistic. Even if they discovered a viable vaccine soon, just implementing a distribution system so that the population of the US would be vaccinated would be daunting for a competent administration.

Way to go, rejecting the label that they tried to put on you! Now go do something nice for yourself! You deserve it after all that.

I hear you about the confusing and exhausting part, as well as preferring fiction.

School is officially off for the summer, and I am home. I had been working in our school's daycare that was mandated by the governor when our district went to distance learning. (But that's a whole journal entry right there.) I'm glad to be done and glad to be able to be within 6 feet of my husband. (We were social distancing due to his health concerns and my possible exposure at work.) I have a lot of house cleaning and reading to get caught up on. :-)

How's your new house and the remodel? Are you enjoying it? We were right at the beginning of plans to remodel our kitchen and replace this ugly carpet we have throughout the house when COVID-19 struck. Had our cupboards and counter and flooring picked out. Luckily, we hadn't ordered it all yet. Maybe later once this is over and the stock market recovers.

Anyway, would love to see pictures of your remodel if possible.

Have a great birthday on Friday! Hope it's a great day for you. Hugs.
