A Book a Day: Binti
Jun. 17th, 2020 03:39 pm Every day I'm posting a picture of a book I like. This is the first of a trilogy of novellas revolving Binti, a young Himba woman who gets accepted into one of the prestigious universities in the galaxy. Along the way, her ship is attacked by the Meduse, a mysterious and hostile alien race. It turns out that Binti is the only one who can talk to them, and the reason they are hostile is because the University's museum has the preserved body of a Medusan on display. So basically, this is a story about cultural differences, colonial history, and academia's problematic role in those things. It's so. good.
