A Book a Day: Maeve's Times
Jun. 30th, 2020 03:53 pm Every day I'm posting a picture of a book I like. I adore Binchy's novels and short stories which are known for combining cozy reads with the history of change in Ireland. Before she was a novelist, Binchy was a journalist for The Irish Times, publishing daily columns and acting for a period as the Editor of the Women's Pages. In the 70s she was also on the ground for the Turkish invasion of Cyprus in 1974 and for a time was the only BBC-affiliated journalist on the ground there through happenstance. This collection combines cozy advice columns with her accounts of the invasion and of London bombings, which is such a great combination of genre writings for this lovely writer.
