A Book a Day: Many Waters

 Every day (ish) I'm sharing an image of a book I like. L'Engle's books are some classic comfort reads for me, because they are so delightfully weird and sincerely buy-in to that weird. Many Waters is my personal fave of the Wrinkle in Time Quartet because time travel, women of the Bible, and also all the angel sex that is hinted at but doesn't actually happen on the page. I'm thinking about rereading this one to see how it holds up in the middle of a pandemic, because one of the questions the book asks is basically about the health of a society, and at what point does society largely become irredeemable. So of course this takes place just before the Great Flood, when an awful lot of people are assholes, a number of people are good and act for the collective good, and an awful lot of people are "neutral" because it's none of their business--and therefore get punished with the baddies. We'll ignore the lols inherent in good angels being gold and bad/sexy angels being rainbow.

Yep, that's a first issue dustjacket. These aren't all the covers I found, just the ones that entertain me the most. :)

That nineties one... sure is something! I'm pretty sure some of my copies of the rest of the series match some of the others in your post.

Oh man the twins had one shared love interest, with beautiful breasts, what was her name? Yalith? That book was a wild ride. Hilariously, being me, my main issue with it was that my personal vision of technology at that point in history wasn't the same as L'Engle's. I think I may join you in that reread, to see what I think now.

YES! So much time spent on Yalith's perfect breasts! And also other women's breasts. (Adolescentbb!me: Oh, so it's normal to think about breasts this much!) And then the one angel that was so painfully in love with her, and meanwhile she was in love with him and also both of the twins.

I don't even remember what aspects of technology they had? It seemed pretty stone age-esque. Tell me more of your thinkie thoughts!!

PS It definitely is normal to think so much about breasts. ;)
