A Book a Day: Dynasty
Aug. 14th, 2020 03:30 pm Every day (ish) I'm sharing an image of a book I like. Holland (who I know isn't the actor who plays Spider-Man, and yet I find it delightful to imagine him that way) retreads the familiar ground of the Julio-Claudians, but recontextualizes them as being more like the mafia than august emperors. He's also not inaccurate in that assessment, and goes to great lengths to revise Augustus especially as a thuggish gangster rather than as a benevolent dictator. This book was talked about quite a lot back in 2015-2016, and honestly, people should think about picking it up again to really "appreciate" the current kakistocracy in the White House.
