Another full house this weekend, though under better circumstances mostly. Scott's Aunt Dorothy and cousin Ethan came to visit as Ethan had a scholarship tour of A&M through the weekend. We also have our friend Melanie staying with us for the moment due to unpleasant sewage issues at her home. It's fun though--kind of like having a small party all the time.

I was looking at my calendar for work this weekend and it is going to be pretty crazy. I *really* need to find some time to sit down and work on some research papers and proposals. There's also been a call for chapters for a book on Teaching Buffy that I want to write a chapter for.

Sigh. So much to do, so little time to do it in. And, I still want to level up in WoW for the new expansion release (I have one level to go) and I also got Warhammer if I can find time for that too.

Oh, and lastly, the New Lapham's Quarterly is out and I highly recommend it to anyone here in education. Its theme is "Ways of Learning" and it has some really great essays.

More later.

So we were bored this afternoon and were actually watching football and like the vultures in The Jungle Book asking each other what we wanted to do.

What we apparently wanted to do was go to the bookstore and behave. Then we didn't. Ahem.

So, I got:

-Daily Life in Medieval Times (Pretty pictures!)
-The Best American Essays of the Century (Cheap and educational!)
-Lone Star: The History of Texas and Texans (Because I have to give back the library copy some time but I'm not going to be done with it any time soon.)
-The Book of Ballads (Because Neil Gaiman is in it!)
-Who Killed Chaucer? (It's by that Terry Jones.)
-Cosette, The Sequel to Les Miserables (Who knew?! --Not by Hugo though.)

Scott got:

-A Charlie Brown Christmas CD (For Xmas purposes!)
-The Bonesetter's Daughter (He's an Amy Tan fan.)
-Rise to Rebellion (We don't have enough Shaara novels.)
-The Glorious Cause (See previous.)
-Native Son (He likes literature.)
-Great Battles: Decisive Conflicts That Have Changed History (Oversized and with lots of maps. He is overjoyed at this one.)

Melanie got:

-Nightshade: 20th Century Ghost Stories (Because Halloween is approaching!)

So yeah. We behaved. *coff*
*Disclaimer: This was at Half-Price Books, so in fairness we did make out like utter bandits with these.

Then we came home and decided that we really wanted to make cupcakes. So out came the CakeLove book. We made the Cherry Chocolate Cupcakes with vanilla buttercream meringue. Tasty but the cake was a bit sweeter than we were expecting.

Anyhow, we're all ready for another week.
