So I *really* enjoyed Season 1, though I've only seen bits of Season 2. The series diverges from the books (Charlaine Harris's Southern Vampire Mysteries) quite a bit, though I really enjoy the books as well.
It's also standard HBO: LOTS of explicit sex, gore, etc. There's way more of both in the television show than there is in the books. So just an FYI there.
(FYI the pic is a joke from the books: to market his vampire bar, the vampire Eric--who is played by the guy on the right--decides to make a vampire hunks calendar, with himself as Mr. January. Which is why I thought it very cute and shareworthy. Also, he is pretty.)
