Question for my Fic-Readers
Oct. 4th, 2011 10:05 pmNext week I'm teaching the innocents in my Fan Studies class about slash fiction, and I want to give them an example of a fic, so I'd like to pick one of my short G/PG rated pieces. Any thoughts? I was initially thinking "Totally Not a Stockholm Syndrome Thing" because of the BTVS fusion aspect (thus knocking out: AU, crossover, and slash ALL AT ONCE) but now I'm rethinking in terms of something more user-friendly. "Expected Learning Outcomes" is maybe my favoritest short fic but it's maybe more pre-slash?
We're also doing the monthly screening of a TOS ep (probably "Amok Time" but possibly "The Trouble with Tribbles") followed by the reboot, because when I'm corrupting, I'm doing it wholeheartedly.
Yes I'm overthinking this a lot.
~
Unrelated, there was this conversation today:
Me: So I had to write about the worst thing I could think of for my writing class, and then I did and cried myself to sleep and had nightmares.
Todd: What did you write about??
Me: Someone killing a puppy.
Todd: ... I think that says everything about you if the worst thing you can think of is someone killing a puppy.
I think he's right.
~
I also did a practice run of my big tenure presentation today. Strangely, I feel MORE nervous now.

Fic wise - the first rule of flying verse is a good idea, I'd also say "Many Happy Returns", as it's easy to get into, all you need to know of the canon (at that moment) is their intro meeting on the shuttle, and you can use it (along with maybe something else from around that period) to show how you can interpret the canon etc and use TOS facts in AOS :D
And your tenure presentation will go wonderfully! :D
