caitri: (Is this a kissing book?)

Next week I'm teaching the innocents in my Fan Studies class about slash fiction, and I want to give them an example of a fic, so I'd like to pick one of my short G/PG rated pieces. Any thoughts? I was initially thinking "Totally Not a Stockholm Syndrome Thing" because of the BTVS fusion aspect (thus knocking out: AU, crossover, and slash ALL AT ONCE) but now I'm rethinking in terms of something more user-friendly. "Expected Learning Outcomes" is maybe my favoritest short fic but it's maybe more pre-slash?

We're also doing the monthly screening of a TOS ep (probably "Amok Time" but possibly "The Trouble with Tribbles") followed by the reboot, because when I'm corrupting, I'm doing it wholeheartedly.

Yes I'm overthinking this a lot.

Unrelated, there was this conversation today:

Me: So I had to write about the worst thing I could think of for my writing class, and then I did and cried myself to sleep and had nightmares.
Todd: What did you write about??
Me: Someone killing a puppy.
Todd: ... I think that says everything about you if the worst thing you can think of is someone killing a puppy.

I think he's right.

I also did a practice run of my big tenure presentation today. Strangely, I feel MORE nervous now.

"Totally Not a Stockholm Syndrome Thing" is probably the best way to go if you're looking to hit all the big things as once... "Once Shot, Twice Shy" might work for that too (I've always been partial to that one), but more of your students might know BtVS than Xena, so... I'm also a big fan of "Subject and Degree," but, yeah, I guess that's more of a I've-been-in-the-fandom-awhile fic...

So I guess my answer is go with your first instinct.

Thanks for the recs, but those last two are both long and R-rated. I give the students a free out if they are uncomfortable with discussing homosexuality, but I don't want to knock them over the heads with how boy!sex works. >_> (that's what the rest of the internet is for) Any thoughts on the other ficlets though, maybe? *is rereading for content*

hmmmm... The First Rule of Flyin', taken as a whole? Other than that, my only suggestion to excise the R-rated from the fics I've already mentioned...

Oh, maybe, there's a thought. I know a couple have seen Firefly before. *thinks*

*squishes* Thanks for trying to help, btw, I probably sound like an ingrate. <3

you don't. I just got off work and can barely form coherant sentences, let alone read anything into anyone's replies.
