Snarky Ranty Letter I Will Never Send

Dear Grad Student on FB,

Let's be clear about something. I'm an exceedingly nice and brilliant person, some of which you are likely aware of but probably not with the full context. You see, while I am also a grad student right now, I also used to be a tenured professor at an R-1 institution. I also got tenure at the age of thirty. In short, I am not only really fucking smart, but I know my shit at a level that most people never even get to reach.

So when you decide to talk about journal publications and articles, and I point out a factual history as to why some things are the way they are, and you decide to get snarky? You look like the foolish little boy you are.

Because sweetie? We might be the same age, and we might be in the same program, but--I'm still a journal editor with some fifteen articles out there, and you aren't. So maybe if I deign to tell you things, you should consider listening. At the end of the day, you're not All That.

But I am.

That's pretty much what I use it for -- it and G+. Facebook is where I pretend a semblance of professionalism.

Don't let him get you down -- I'm sure he didn't mean anything bad and he's at the tail end of dissertating so he's probably frazzled anyway.

The article he's mentioning there (sorry, I had a lunch meeting so I missed the actual post and needed to catch up) is in the Chronicle I believe. Basically it reads like "everyone should do collaborative digital projects now." I'll see if I can find the cite for you.

And now pretentious nimwit friend of Scott's, also on FB, had to say something annoying on a writing thread. AUGH.

I am increasingly of the opinion that we need WAY more female-only space. *sigh*

1) Sadly, female only spaces are not exempt from being annoying.

2) I know it shouldn't be our job to have to educate pretentious and privileged nitwits, but if they never have their comfort zone challenged, the ones who are open to new ideas aren't going to change.
