Of Booksellers and Reavers
Aug. 8th, 2009 07:54 pmOkay so overall I enjoyed the class, though a number of my fellow students got on my nerves by a lot. Some booksellers are a lot like IT people--convinced they have more knowledge than they actually do, unwilling to listen to other people, and otherwise really just deserving of a good Vulcan neck pinch once in a while. But a lot of them are very knowledgeable, nice people it's a joy to be around, too.
Anyhow, finally got my Dollhouse DVDs! Here follows a perfect storm of criticism for "Echo" and "Epitaph One":

Weekend Geekery
Mar. 1st, 2009 08:00 pmFirst, must share this Dollhouse vid of Joss learning to say Tahmoh Penikett's name.
Second, I spent most of yesterday reading The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins. It's the first of a trilogy *grump* and involves teenagers in a post-apocalytipic future (of course) who are selected through a lotter to play Gladiator on television. Much like Highlander, there can be only one--but that winner will get a lifetime's supply of food. Hijinks ensue when two of the teenagers fall in love--or at least pretend to, maybe. It's a solid read, and not as dark as you would think. I honestly can't remember the last time I ate a book up like that. The sequel comes out in September. Sigh.

"The Hammer is My Penis"
Jul. 17th, 2008 06:24 pmSo I'm all about the Dr. Horrible. I love seeing Nathan Fillion as a bad guy again and I'm glad that Neil Patrick Harris is doing the music thing again. Very, very awesome!

Off to UVA next week. Should be interesting.

Joss and WGA
Nov. 9th, 2007 01:22 pmJoss Whedon has been posting about the WGA strike over at Whedonesque all week. I particularly love his latest post on the best strike movies of all time. My particular favorite:
#2: NEWSIES. Oh, you knew this was coming. The wonderful irony of Disney making a children’s fable about the power of workers’ unions was lost on me when I first saw it (it was not lost on the L.A Weekly). The politics of this film are clear, intelligent and uplifting. And the songs are catchy. And Batman’s in it. (And hearing my children walking around the house singing “No one can make us give our rights away” makes all of this a lot easier.) Is it dorky? YOU’RE dorky! Dork.
I really loved that movie as a kid, along with White Fang. Mostly because of the adolescent Christian Bale singing. I still remember a fair number of lyrics.
Right, fighting now the overwhelming urge to netflix this and/or go to Santa Fe.
Carry on.
