Pencils, that is. A while back I posted on how you too could support the WGA Strike by buying boxes of sustainable pencils for $1 and delivering them to the PTB. Well people did, and lo, there were boxes and boxes of them, which Joss Whedon (Buffy, Firefly etc.) and Ron D. Moore (BSG) did pour into a tub.

Whedonesque did report on the hypnotic effect of this video.

ETA: Ron Moore posts on his blog about the whole thing.

Okay, me like.

Me way like.

Me watching Jack of All Trades.

Okay so I posted on this a while back. Hulu.com lets you legally download videos of tv shows, movies, etc. All you have to do is sign up and watch a couple of short commercials--like TV but way better. I got my authorization today to go play and the offerings are pretty dang good. (And another reason to support that WGA strike so the writers get paid for these precious puppies.)

I know I should be constructive. I just can't seem to manage it.

Over at Whedonesque, Joss encourages us all to arise and seize pencils--or at least buy them in tandem with a hella lot of other fanbases so execs get the message. The pencils in question are from a company that uses sustainable farming techniques and cost around $1 a box. Go forth and purchase ye pencils!

Meanwhile, the Daily Kos features a video clip of Jason Ross, one of the 14 Daily Show writers, who provides a Daily Show-like report on what's going on, or at least until James Oliver interrupts. Awesome as hell.

Go forth and support the WGA!

Over at the NYT, a Daily Show writer uses the Sunday Style section as a strike diary:

12:15 p.m. A man in a suit passes by. He yells, “I hope you all get fired!”

Look — this is weird for us, too, you know. Writers are not a naturally combative species. We’re used to sitting in front of our computers and crying. Fresh air is like poison to us. If protocol didn’t dictate otherwise, it’s very likely we would never wear pants. But we’ve given up our salaries and our jobs — easily the only jobs we’re qualified for — to stand outside and yell at people. So, for the sake of decency, could you please not yell back?

I seem to have digested something in the past twenty-four hours that makes my digestive system deeply unhappy. It is very annoying.

Joss Whedon has been posting about the WGA strike over at Whedonesque all week. I particularly love his latest post on the best strike movies of all time. My particular favorite:

#2: NEWSIES. Oh, you knew this was coming. The wonderful irony of Disney making a children’s fable about the power of workers’ unions was lost on me when I first saw it (it was not lost on the L.A Weekly). The politics of this film are clear, intelligent and uplifting. And the songs are catchy. And Batman’s in it. (And hearing my children walking around the house singing “No one can make us give our rights away” makes all of this a lot easier.) Is it dorky? YOU’RE dorky! Dork.

I really loved that movie as a kid, along with White Fang. Mostly because of the adolescent Christian Bale singing. I still remember a fair number of lyrics.

Right, fighting now the overwhelming urge to netflix this and/or go to Santa Fe.

Carry on.
